Jewelry has been an integral part of our society ever since mankind has begun to evolve into a much more social and intelligible specie compared to others of its level, maybe even before that. Jewelry is essentially ornaments that you may use as adornments or embellishments on your body in order to further enhance the charisma and beauty you exude. But apart from making you look like a god or a goddess, jewelry itself can be quite an artifact to look at. As one appreciates the work and effort that goes into honing a rough jewel into one that shines and glimmers in all its glory wrapped in a silver chain, they must think about how this ornament has been crafted in the first place.
Jewelry making can be a tedious process if you look at it from an outside perspective and indeed it can be time consuming and a creatively demanding process. But things become much simpler once you break it down into steps.
The very first step in jewelry making is to perform the task of design sketching. Even when constructing a building, the first step is to sketch a general structure and create a blueprint upon which the basic structure is laid down. The same goes with jewelry making.
Therefore, a sketch is made on paper and a picture that has only been thought about so far is converted into a physical state to be worked upon further. This very essential process may take quite a bit of time but that is not a problem as it is arguably the most important step.
If the first step is the most essential, the second step is the most demanding. The model that is sketched on paper if converted into a wax model by masterful craftsmen. They give the idea a realistic look and shape it by hand through manual tools.
With the developments in science and technology however, more and more technical tools and machines are being employed in this process for it is a physically demanding one.
The next part is to create a casting of the target piece of jewelry that is to be brought to physical form. The casting acts as an inverted mold for the sketched jewelry.
The step going forward, as you might have guessed, is to produce the piece of jewelry through the inverted mold or casting created in the previous step. Generally a calendering knife is used in order to manually polish and fine tune the surface of the artifact. The use of technical and complex equipment is being promoted in this step as well as this, again, can be a challenging task.
Once the basic structure of the embellishment has been created, the time comes to make it presentable and perfect. At this stage, stones are chosen to adorn the piece, materials are selected for attachment, and the colors, shapes and sizes of the stones are decided.
The sixth step is arguably the most artistic one: experts and masterful crafters work to create beautiful inlaid pattern work on the stones adorned on the artful piece of jewelry at hand. Once a pattern has been created, modern technology and machines can be used to repeat it a number of times on the desired jewels.
After masterful creation comes the task to finally polish the beautiful masterpiece to perfection. Several techniques are employed in order to smoothen the surfaces of the jewels and allow the polished, shiny surface of the aforementioned stones to shine through to give them a finished, professional look.
The very last step is also an equally important one: it is inspection. Inspectors and quality controllers make sure that every piece of jewelry created is up to mark and poses as the best of its kind. Those that do not cut the criteria of quality are discarded and sent back into production for further honing or re-manufacturing.
The jewelry making process is not exactly as easy as cutting cake, neither is it just a fun hobby. It is a masterful process carried out through a number of steps that must be followed down to perfection in order to ensure the best quality of service that particular brand can provide to its customers. So the next time you open up your prized collection of impeccable jewelry to select one for a perfect evening, remember that the jewels you wear have not just been plucked out of a rough rock- they have been designed, sketched, waxed, cut, shaped, and polished to perfection just so it can help you add another dimension to your already remarkable appearance!
